Top picks Bogut, Bargnani highlight Rookie Challenge
New York, NY (Basketball News) - The first overall selections of the last two NBA Drafts, Toronto Raptors forward Andrea Bargnani and Milwaukee Bucks forward Andrew Bogut, headline the 18 players chosen to play in this year’s Rookie Challenge on Friday, Feb. 16th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Bargnani will play alongside Minnesota’s Randy Foye, Portland’s Brandon Roy, Memphis’ Rudy Gay, Charlotte’s Adam Morrison, Toronto’s Jorge Garbosa, Utah’s Paul Millsap, New Jersey’s Marcus Williams, and the LA Lakers’ Jordan Farmar on the Rookie team.
Selected to join Bogut on the Sophomore team are Golden State’s Monta Ellis, Indiana’s Danny Granger, New Orleans/Oklahoma City’s Chris Paul, Utah’s Deron Williams, Houston’s Luther Head, New York’s David Lee, and the LA Lakers’ Andrew Bynum.
Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala led the Sophomores to their fourth straight win last year, scoring a game-high 30 points to win the MVP award in a 106-96 defeat of the Rookies. Chicago’s Ben Gordon and Toronto’s Charlie Villanueva scored 18 points apiece for the Rookies.
The matchup is a prelude to the NBA All-Star game, scheduled to take place on February 18th, also at the Thomas & Mack Center.
